Kingdom Revelator Australia – Issue 107
I had been, as our Parish priest put it, a victim of the ‘Lent trap’. I started off this lent with great plans for making a truly and amazing sacrificial journey of fasting and sacrifices. Since Jesus fasted for 40 days without eating, I decided to eat just salads for the whole Lent period. However, my Lenten journey was short-lived. After just one week, I fainted and had to discontinue my so-called great Lenten resolution. I was gutted! I told my parish priest about how miserably I had failed. He said Lent is not about us doing something for God, rather it is about letting Jesus in and allowing Him to attend to us and change us so that we can be more at one with Him. He reassured me that Jesus will never be disappointed with me for falling short.
“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). Jesus died on the cross for us. His resurrection is a reassurance to us that no matter how big a sinner we are, He still loves us and has ransomed us by His passion and death. We no longer need to been slaved to sin but are free to live in the hope of spending eternity with the Lord. The Gospels tell us about a woman who anointed Jesus with ointment at the Pharisee’ house; she breaks open her whole heart and pours out her life and soul to Christ in gratitude. We have been set free by Christ, so we are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!
Happy Easter.
