God made each of us in His own image and likeness. Yet Satan, full of envy and deceit, deceived Eve by telling her that God doesn’t want us to be like Him. What a terrible lie it was! Eve being led astray by his lie, disobeyed God’s command and as a punishment Adam and Eve were banished from paradise. Being created in His own image to love and to be loved, how could God withhold anything from us? The truth is – He doesn’t. Even though we are sinners God still wants us to be reunited with Him one day in paradise.
This made me ponder the depth of this love that God has for us. Jesus’ love for us started even before we were created: “He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love” (Ephesians1:4). No matter how hard I try, I will never be able to fathom this endless love of God for us. God became so small that He could come to live in me every day in the Holy Eucharist.
How deep must have been His love for us that He chose to become so small for our sake. He came in search of us, suffered and died and then rose again to give us victory over death. Jesus is still alive in you and me. “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8).
