Kingdom Revelator – Issue 20
A new year, a new you!
Welcome to the first edition of Kingdom Revelator in 2016. First of all we wish our readers a happy New Year, filled with hope, peace and love. Let all the decisions that we make this year be guided by the Holy Spirit, all the challenges be conquered with God’s grace and let us use wisely all the opportunities that God gives us.
Most of us begin the New Year with a list of resolutions. This practice can be traced back to the ancient Babylonians, who lived 3000 years ago. There is something about the approach of a new year that makes us want to have a fresh start and a new beginning. Exercising more, quitting smoking, stopping drinking, eating healthier, praying more often, reading the Bible regularly, getting organised, studying harder or losing weight are some of the common resolutions. We might set a goal for ourselves to improve physically, mentally or spiritually, but do we stick to it? It takes a lot of determination to stick to our resolutions and often they end up as a ‘to do list’ after the first week of January. If we want to successfully change our habits and life style we must seek God’s will and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help. If we rely on our will power alone, we will soon go back to our old ways. But if we rely on God’s strength then together with Him, everything is possible for us. However, this does not mean that God will do all the work. Sitting on the couch all day reading the Bible and expecting to lose weight will not work. We must do what we need to do, and God will do His part to help us to achieve our goals.
Thomas Fuller, the 17th Century writer said, “Seek Him and His wonderful plan for your life. The two of you will make a great team, united in your determination to fulfil your destiny. A strong will, a settled purpose, an invincible determination can accomplish almost anything.” When we team up with Christ, we are not alone. The coming year may offer us great times as well as difficult situations but when we are in the winning team, with Christ as the captain, we are more powerful than we think!
“I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13
